UX design and research
I worked on Retirement, Pensions and Protection during my time at Royal London. The B2B Life Insurance application picked up four awards in the 2016 FT Online Innovation and Service awards, including Best Company, and Best Innovation for the new service. The new service took in over £1 million of new business every week.
I created interactive prototypes in Axure and tested them on our service users. I used the same prototype to hand over the work to front end developers and testers.
I worked with the QA team to target a range of browsers and devices to ensure the new Extranet would be fully responsive.
My other financial services and banking clients: Scottish Widows, Virgin Money
Tools used: Axure, Illustrator
Data visualisation and prototype tools
I've been creating data visualisations since working with data scientists at Clydesdale Bank.
See some examples at my Open processing account.
I've also created tools for prototyping and letting content editors work on website screens.

Sketching ideas and hacking together rapid prototypes
I met MoneyMatiX as part of my Scottish Fintech meet-up. This Scottish Fintech offers financial education for families. I worked with the owner to develop this app proof of concept. I used their friendly illustration and branding to develop a set of spending tools.
I also worked with a LegalTech start up to develop a native app prototype. Lifeium offers online will creation. We tested this on users in the target demographic.
My other Fintech clients: Lifeium, Guiide and Sonik Pocket.
Tools: Figma, proto.io, Invision
B2B software
I led a complete redesign of the case management software package AdvicePro for a small but dynamic software house.
I took the design out on a laptop to test it out on real users: case workers and housing officers.
Most of my experience is designing apps for small organisations or online services for large ones. It was a lot of fun developing desktop software with a small team.
Tools: Axure, HTML / CSS / Javascript
UX consultancy and training
I started doing freelance UX Design for Naturescot then worked for them full-time. I helped advise them on every aspect of their new online form, including user research, interaction design and service design. They launched their new service during 2022.
For government websites, accessibility is more important than visual flair. Designers use standard design patterns from the official government toolkit. User Research shows people who use these screens often find this predictable kind of design useable and reassuring.
My other government clients: HMRC, ILF Scotland, the Home Office
Tools: GOVUK prototype kit, Figma
