BOBBY KING

I'm a friendly but passionate UX professional with a focus on designing accessible data platforms.

I enjoy projects where I can find ways for ordinary people to interact with complicated data.

I work with founders, stakeholders, data scientists and developers to create products which are useful, usable and accessible.

I manage a public repo with useful govuk code snippets at https://github.com/angeltapes/juggling-licence (opens in a new tab).

You can also check out examples of my work in the resources section.

I've co-organised the UX Glasgow meet-up since 2013 and I started the UX in Scotland Facebook group in 2014. I'm well-known in UK design circles as a mentor, organiser and leader.

Testimonials

HMRC

I had the pleasure of working with Bobby during his time as a Senior Interaction Designer at HMRC. His approach to interaction design consistently favored good interaction over simply taking the easier path. This dedication to creating the best user experience was evident in every module we developed.

One of Bobby's key strengths is his ability to clearly explain the logic behind his solutions. This skill ensured that everyone, from stakeholders to team members, understood the rationale and benefits of his design choices. The whole development team enjoyed working with Bobby, as the prototypes he developed were incredibly helpful.

The interactions and UX he implemented and evangelized not only made sense to me, a software developer with 15 years of experience, but more importantly as a taxpayer who would use this product with ease in the future.

The Home Office

Bobby reported to me at the Home Office for year and throughout he was a pleasure to work with. Friendly, easy to get on with and he put the effort in to do things the right way. Also great at taking the lead in the design community and always someone you can depend upon to take part.

Royal London

I worked with Bobby on the Royal London Extranet re-design where he was a champion of the need to perform focussed user research on the new UI when the tight timescales dictated we should just press-on. Striking the balance between the need to deliver working software and an optimised user experience is a great skill.

Having joined the project mid-stream, he reviewed the existing user research and planned improvements and reviews in the six months before the initial launch, visiting financial intermediary customers to capture their feedback. He evaluated candidate new features with customer interviews and usability testing and implemented Google analytics, using it to give the team actionable insights. Bobby was collaborative and acted as a trusted partner throughout the process.
